The fact that children are our most precious resource can never by overstated and over-generalized. Our youngest children, including those that are yet to be born, represent our possibilities…they represent both our future and the immediate social condition for what we truly value. Therefore anything that we can do to positively benefit a young child, their parents, and those that offer care for them will only add value to what we culturally aspire to be. This is exemplified by the vision that Rob Reiner, actor/director, had when he painstakingly worked toward the passage of Proposition 10 or the California Children and Families Act of 1998. As a result of his, and his collaborators’, efforts, Imperial County, like 57 other California Counties, now has the ability to provide significant resources to families through funding opportunities for agencies working in the areas of early care and education, family functioning, and child health.

Focus on Children 0-5

Since the creation of the Imperial County Children and Families First Commission, as a result of the passage of the 1998 California Children and Families Act, this organization has been at the forefront of working toward the development of children 0-5 years of age through funding agencies that provide services that range from prenatal care to child asthma, from parent education to support for children that are under the custody of the juvenile court system, and from child literacy activities to preschool services for children with special needs. The Commission, on a yearly basis, provides the resources necessary for a number of projects to operate in Imperial County and support children from zero to five years of age, their parents and other family members, as well as professionals that work to benefit the young child.
